Dungeon Settlers on Steam Deck: What the Playable Rating Means

Valve rates Dungeon Settlers Playable on Steam Deck — icon mismatches, small text, a manual on-screen keyboard, and resolution setup are the caveats.

If you’re planning to run Dungeon Settlers on a Steam Deck, here’s the official picture: Valve’s compatibility review rates the game Playable — the middle of Valve’s tiers, above “Unsupported” — but with a specific list of caveats, and CanOpener does not officially support the handheld yet.

What did Valve’s review find?

Per the official compatibility review (in the studio’s Steam Deck Compatibility news post, published August 23, 2026):

  • The game sometimes shows mouse, keyboard, or non-Steam-Deck controller icons while you’re playing on the Deck
  • Entering some text requires manually invoking the on-screen keyboard
  • Some in-game text is small and may be difficult to read
  • The game supports the Deck’s native display resolution but does not set it by default — you may need to configure the display resolution manually

Does that mean it runs badly?

“Playable” means the game functions on the Deck — it launches, is playable with the built-in controls, and legible with the listed caveats. CanOpener’s own note is careful, though: “While the game may be playable on Steam Deck, we do not officially support the device at this time and cannot guarantee an optimal gameplay experience.”

Practical takeaways for Deck players

  1. Set the display resolution manually — the game doesn’t default to the Deck’s native resolution
  2. Expect text to be small — the review flags legibility; adjust the in-game UI scale if one is offered
  3. Expect mismatched mouse/keyboard icons — the review calls out icon mismatches on the Deck
  4. Text entry needs the on-screen keyboard invoked by hand in some places

None of these are blockers, but they’re the difference between “Playable” and “Verified” — exactly the kind of thing a future roadmap item could address during Early Access.
