Dungeon Settlers Infinite Abyss: The Endless Mode Explained
What the Infinite Abyss is in Dungeon Settlers — the endless mode's 20-floor structure, boss portals, placeholder rewards, and whether it's worth diving.
FAQ
What is the Infinite Abyss in Dungeon Settlers?
Is the Infinite Abyss worth farming?
Is the Infinite Abyss the same as the Forgotten Abyss on the expedition map?
Once both story regions’ floor-5 bosses are down, the documented boss content of Early Access runs out — unless you walk into the Infinite Abyss: a standalone endless-dungeon mode that trades story for depth. It’s the mode the official roadmap keeps pointing at: Update 4’s plan includes a trophy building for Abyss rewards.
What is the Infinite Abyss?
A separate game mode, not a third story region: reachable from the main menu or the expedition select screen, distinct from the Veil of Silence and Festering Burrow (regions overview). Don’t confuse it with the Forgotten Abyss entry on the expedition map — that’s a separate, empty placeholder region.
How is it structured?
Community documentation describes:
- 20 descending floors, with the mode’s own room template pool — roughly 20 combat rooms, 8 treasure, 3 corridor, 2 portal, 1 entry, and 1 event room
- Treasure rooms spawn in bands, not one per floor
- Boss portals enter the pool at floors 10 and 20 — mini-boss encounters as mid-run and final checkpoints
- A distinct monster roster — around 42 variants, from rats and slimes up to elites including Stone Golems, Chain Knight Sentinels, slime variants, and Slogels
In other words: the bosses you learned to fight in the story regions come back, remixed, twenty floors deep.
What does it drop?
Currently, not much — by design-in-progress:
- Treasure chest loot is placeholder
- Abyss monsters don’t have dedicated drop tables yet; drops use temporary copy-pasted rewards
The official EA roadmap is the counterweight: Update 4 (Q4 2026 target) includes a trophy building for Abyss rewards — the clearest signal that real rewards, and a reason to farm, arrive with that update. Every announced Update 4 feature is tracked in the Update 4 preview.
How do you survive 20 floors?
The community strategy frame, assuming a party that has cleared both story bosses:
- Build for sustainability, not burst — 20 floors is a marathon; damage that exhausts your casters by floor 12 is a trap (weapon tier list)
- Shield users remain critical — Provoke and doorway holds still apply; without a tank, “swarms will overwhelm casters” (party comps)
- Overstock consumables — healing items and mana potions, because there are no safe return points mid-descent
- Treat floors 10 and 20 as checkpoints — heal, repair gear, and rest before each boss portal
- Watch the mood economy — long dungeon stays drain mood, and a mental break twenty floors down is how expeditions end
Should you dive now?
If you want the challenge: yes — it’s the only content that scales past the story regions today. If you want loot: no — depletion-managed story floors pay better until Update 4 ships the reward layer. Either way, this page updates as the mode hardens; the version stamp on this article tells you which build it describes.
