Dungeon Settlers Depletion Guide: Why Floors Stop Paying Out
How depletion works in Dungeon Settlers — cleared floors yield less, boss and elite spawns drop, and recovery timing is still unconfirmed.

What is depletion in Dungeon Settlers?
Do depleted floors recover?
Does depletion affect boss fights?
How do I farm around depletion?
Depletion is the quiet rule behind every Dungeon Settlers farming question. It’s why “where do I farm X” always has a second half — “…and for how long” — and it’s the mechanic that turns the two dungeon regions from static levels into something closer to crop rotation.
What is depletion?
Each dungeon run depletes a segment of a floor’s offerings:
- Resources you clear stay cleared — a picked berry bush doesn’t respawn behind you
- You get limited passes at a given level before it stops paying out
- Reports describe waiting for floors to reset — the recovery mechanism is where the documentation stops
In practice the game is telling you the same thing the surface/dungeon material split does: nothing underground is a tap you can leave running.
What depletes, and what’s left behind?
The documented room pool shows what’s on the table: resource nodes (berry bushes, trees), old campgrounds, and the enemies guarding them. Clearing a floor takes some mix of all three out of the offering — which is also why depletion hits farming and hunting at once.
Does depletion affect bosses and elites?
Yes — this is the part farming guides skip. Community documentation warns that heavily depleted floors have significantly lower boss and elite spawn rates. Two practical consequences:
- Hunting named elites (the Shadow Stalker, the Burrow King) works better on fresh or recovering corridors
- The floor-5 boss checkpoint statue is activated by choice — but the run-up to it goes smoother on a floor that hasn’t been stripped
Whether bosses themselves respawn after a kill is not documented — no source, official or community, has confirmed it yet.
Do floors recover?
In shape, yes: reports consistently describe waiting for floors to reset. What no source has pinned down:
- Whether recovery is time-based, run-count-based, or tied to activity elsewhere in the region
- Whether recovery is partial or full
Until that’s verified in-game, the honest rule is the soft one: rotate, and check a stripped floor again after several runs elsewhere.
How do you farm around depletion?
The community practice that works under any recovery rule — rotation:
- Vary floors, not just runs — clearing floors 1-2, then 4-3, then back, beats running the same corridor to zero
- Alternate regions — the documented pattern is Veil of Silence reruns for Raw Hide and research books while Festering Burrow floors recover, and the reverse for clay and Carapace drops
- Keep the surface running — simple wood and rock are the only documented unlimited resources; everything the crafting chain consumes from the dungeon is subject to depletion
- Hunt and gather in the same pass — since elite spawns drop on depleted floors, do your named hunting early in a floor’s life and your bulk gathering after
