FAQ

How much HP does the Chain Knight Sentinel have?
First-week community documentation puts it near 34,000 HP against build v0.4.19 — nearly double the Giant Stone Golem. CanOpener hasn't published official boss stats, and higher difficulties scale HP further.
Why does the Chain Knight Sentinel take so little damage?
Community documentation reports roughly 33% resistance to both physical and magical damage. That profile deletes the single-damage-type party: a pure-physical or pure-magic squad is fighting the resistance wall, not the boss. Bring both damage types.
How do the chains work in the Chain Knight Sentinel fight?
The boss uses chain abilities to pull your party members out of position and set up its follow-up damage. Community guidance: expect the yank, keep the guard between the boss and the squishies, and pause immediately after each pull to re-form the formation before resuming damage.

The Chain Knight Sentinel is the boss of the Festering Burrow — Dungeon Settlers’ second Early Access region — waiting on its floor 5. Where the Giant Stone Golem tests positioning, the Sentinel tests your damage profile and composure: it resists everything a bit, hits in chain-controlled sequences, and simply outlasts parties that brought one trick.

What makes this fight different?

Two things, per community documentation:

  1. Dual resistance — roughly a third of both physical and magical damage is shaved off. A party that cleared the Golem with four physical hitters walks into a wall here.
  2. Chain control — the Sentinel pulls and chains your party members, breaking formations you set up at the door. The pull is the attack you play around, the way stomp zones define the Golem fight.

It also follows the shared boss two-phase rhythm — aggression, then a stationary recovery window — but with a health pool near double the Golem’s, the fight is a stamina check: can your sustain outlast 34,000 resistant HP?

What party do you bring?

The community-documented shape:

  • A shield guard who never leaves the front — Provoke holds the Sentinel through the chaos (weapon tier list)
  • Mixed damage: physical striker and magic caster — this is the fight the party comp tier list builds toward; single-type comps need not apply
  • Summon support if you have it — extra bodies eat chain pulls and doorway pressure (Water caster summons are the community favorite)
  • Deep healing stock — ointments, aid kits, mana potions; “no safe return points” applies to long boss pushes

How do you handle the chains?

  • Pre-position for the yank: assume any settler can be pulled at any time; keep squishies behind the guard relative to the boss, not just away from it
  • Pause the moment a chain fires — real-time-with-pause exists exactly for re-forming formations; a beat of planning beats a dead archer
  • Re-form before resuming damage — damage during a broken formation feeds the resistance war of attrition
  • Guard first after every pull — the Sentinel’s follow-up hits the nearest body; make sure that body is the shield

How do you prepare?

Same spine as the Golem, one tier deeper:

  1. Festering Burrow-tier gear — the region’s crafting materials feed the next armor tier (crafting guide)
  2. A leveled roster — no community-documented level requirement exists for this fight; if you’ve cleared the Golem and geared for the Burrow, you’re in range. Pray with mana stones before descending (leveling & blessings)
  3. Full mood and food — this fight is long enough that a mental break mid-chain-sequence is a real loss condition
  4. Scout the elites first — the Burrow’s named elites (Burrow King’s armor, Fungal Terror’s AoE) are the fight’s mini-exams; see the boss overview

What comes after?

With both regions’ floor-5 bosses down, the documented boss content of Early Access is clear — what’s left is the Infinite Abyss, the endless mode whose real rewards are slated for Update 4 per the official roadmap. Region 3 (Penance Mine) and a new Dwarf race arrive with Update 5.
